https- HTTP Secure Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (HTTPS) secure is a secure version of the Hyper Text Transfer Protocol (http), allowing secured connection between client and server using encryption techniques and is usually used to support e-commerce transactions, such as online shopping and banking.

HTTPS can be implemented based on either Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol or its predecessor, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol. These are cryptographic protocols providing communication security over the Internet using a cryptographic system that encrypts data with two keys: a public key and a private key. The public key is used in issuing a certificate to confirm client identity and to encrypt the data sent to server. The private key, which is kept secret on server, is used to decrypt the encrypted data. For a website having a SSL Digital Certificate installed, a padlock icon appears next to the website URL in the browser navigator. If the website also has an Extended Validation Certificate installed then the certificate is the shown in the green bar next to the website URL.
